Why do we give?

Giving is a blessing that changes lives for the better. Stewardship is rooted in the understanding that the entirety of our life is a gift from God.

Did you know...?


DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN SET UP YOUR PLEDGE TO PAY AUTOMATICALLY EACH MONTH THROUGH YOUR BANK?
Were you used to dropping your pledge into the offering plate every month? Having trouble remembering to drop it in the mail instead? You can set up St. James as a payee in your bank account and set up recurring payments so you don’t have to remember! Your bank with then automatically send a check to the church on the date that you choose. Not only will this take one thing off your To Do list, it will save the church from paying the merchant fees that come with recurring credit card payments. You can usually set this up through your bank’s app or website, or contact your bank for assistance.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN DONATE THE REQUIRED MINIMUM DISTRIBUTION (RMD) FROM YOUR IRA TO ST. JAMES?
If you have a traditional IRA and are aged 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free donation of all or part of the required minimum distribution from your account. St. James maintains an account set up to receive these types of funds. Contact the Church Office for assistance with this type of donation.

DID YOU KNOW THAT A CHARITABLE ANNUITY GIFT CAN HELP YOU MAKE A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO ST. JAMES WHILE ALSO PROVIDING YOU WITH INCOME FOR LIFE?
The Episcopal Church Foundation can help set up and manage an annuity that will provide you with a tax deduction in the year you start the annuity. You can then receive guaranteed income for life and your gift can immediately be used to assure the continued life of St. James. Click here to read more about this type of gift.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN MAKE A GIFT TO THE CHURCH OF YOUR LIFE INSURANCE?
You can name St. James as a beneficiary of any life insurance policy. If you have a whole or universal life insurance policy that you no longer need, your policy has cash value that can be donated to St. James. You can receive a tax deduction for the donated policy. DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN DONATE YOUR PROPERTY TO ST. JAMES?
If you have property that you no longer use and it is free of mortgages or liens, you can donate the property to the church. If you still need your property, but would like to give it to the church in our will, you can receive the tax deduction now and continue to enjoy your property by giving a life estate gift of the property. HAVE YOU MADE OUT YOUR WILL? DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN SECURE YOUR LEGACY BY MAKING A GIFT TO ST. JAMES IN YOUR WILL?
Everyone needs a will to instruct their survivors how to divide the estate. When you make your will, you can designate a general or specific gift to St. James. Your attorney can help you include the language needed to create this type of gift. If you’ve already made your will, your attorney can help you create a codicil, which adds this gift without needing to re-do your entire will.
